Lycée (Upper Secondary, Ages 15–18)

At Windfield International School, the French Lycée programme follows the official curriculum of the French Ministry of National Education and prepares students for the French Baccalauréat. It combines direct teaching by our faculty with registration through the CNED (Centre National d’Enseignement à Distance) to ensure students benefit from continuous national assessment for the final diploma.

  • Year 11 – Seconde (Age 15–16)
A general and exploratory year offering common core subjects alongside optional electives. This year allows students to discover different fields and choose their future specialisations.
  • Year 12 – Première (Age 16–17)
Students select three specialisation subjects while continuing a set of core subjects.
During this year, they also sit the anticipated Baccalauréat exams in French and Mathematics, which count toward their final diploma.
  • Year 13 – Terminale (Age 17–18)
Students continue with two of their three specialisations, alongside the core curriculum, and prepare for the final Baccalauréat examinations.

  • French Language & Literature (until Première)
  • Mathematics (until Première)
  • Philosophy (in Terminale)

Teaching Approach and CNED Partnership

All on-site subjects are delivered by Windfield’s own faculty in direct instruction.
At the same time, every lycée student is enrolled with the CNED, allowing their coursework and assessments to be officially recorded for continuous assessment, which counts toward the French Baccalauréat.

National Placement Assessment in Seconde

At the start of year 11 (Seconde), all students take a national evaluation in French and Mathematics set by the French Ministry of National Education (MENJ).
Held each September, this assessment measures core skills to identify individual strengths and areas for improvement, ensuring that every student begins the Lycée with the support they need.

Baccalauréat Anticipated Exams – Première

At the end of Year 12 (Première), all students sit the anticipated Baccalauréat examinations (épreuves anticipées) in French and Mathematics.
These tests are mandatory for every candidate, including those who have chosen Mathematics as a specialisation for their final year. Results count toward the final Baccalauréat diploma.

Final Baccalauréat – Terminale

In Year 13 (Terminale), students prepare for the French Baccalauréat, which includes:

  • Two specialisation subjects chosen at the end of Première.
  • Philosophy as a compulsory core subject.
  • Physical Education (EPS) as a final practical assessment.
  • The grand oral

All written and oral examinations are administered at the Lycée Français International de Bangkok (LFIB).

Families are responsible for travel and accommodation costs. Please note that exam dates may differ from those in mainland France; the school communicates the confirmed schedule as soon as it is released.

The Grand Oral

A highlight of the final year is the Grand Oral, a 20-minute presentation and discussion designed to evaluate students’ critical thinking, communication, and depth of knowledge.

Students prepare one question for each of their two specialisation subjects.
Shortly before the exam, the examination board selects one of the two questions for the student to present and defend.

Preparation for the Grand Oral begins well in advance, with guidance from teachers to help students refine their arguments and public speaking skills.

Continuous Assessment and CNED Registration

Windfield provides direct, in-person teaching for all on-site subjects.
In addition, each student is enrolled with the CNED (Centre National d’Enseignement à Distance).

This dual approach ensures that all coursework is officially recorded for continuous assessment, which accounts for 40% of the overall Baccalauréat score, while the final examinations represent 60% — in line with the current French national guidelines.

The Lycée stage is designed to:

  • Deepen academic knowledge and prepare students for university-level study in France or abroad.
  • Develop autonomy, responsibility, and analytical thinking, essential for higher education and adult life.
  • Allow students to specialise in fields of personal interest while maintaining a strong general education.
  • Strengthen digital, social, and civic competencies, building confident, well-rounded graduates ready to thrive in a global context.

Pathway to Higher Education – Parcoursup

In their final year (Terminale), students use Parcoursup – the official French higher-education admissions platform.
Parcoursup allows students to research programmes, rank their choices, and submit applications to universities and specialised schools across France.

  • Timeline: The platform typically opens in January, with registration and initial applications due in late January or early February.
  • Confirmation of choices and the upload of supporting documents usually occur by March/April, followed by an admissions phase from June to mid-July.
  • Students receive offers in real time and must confirm their decisions within the specified deadlines.

Our staff guide families through each step, ensuring that all requirements are met and that students present strong academic profiles.

Global Opportunities

With the French Baccalauréat and the high level of English proficiency gained at Windfield, graduates are well prepared to enter universities and specialised schools worldwide, including institutions in Europe, North America, and Asia.
