Collège (Lower Secondary, Ages 11–15)

The Collège stage covers ages 11 to 15 and includes 6e, 5e, 4e, and 3e. It is a crucial step in the French curriculum where students consolidate knowledge, develop independence, and prepare for the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB).

Collège provides a broad, balanced education, combining academic depth with cultural, artistic, and civic development. It serves as the bridge between primary education and the Lycée.

It is divided into two pedagogical cycles: Cycle 3 (6ᵉ) and Cycle 4 (5ᵉ, 4ᵉ, 3ᵉ).

  • 6e (Sixième, age 11–12) → Transition year from primary to secondary.
  • 5e (Cinquième, age 12–13) → Strengthening core knowledge and introducing more complex concepts.
  • 4e (Quatrième, age 13–14) → Expanding learning in sciences, literature, and languages.
  • 3e (Troisième, age 14–15) → Preparation year for the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB) and transition to Lycée.

Total teaching time: approx. 26 hours per week across 36 weeks.

Students study a wide range of disciplines:

  • The curriculum includes advanced reading, writing, and argumentation in French Language and Literature.
  • Mathematics – algebra, geometry, problem-solving, logical reasoning.
  • Sciences – physics, chemistry, life sciences (SVT), and technology.
  • History & Geography / Civic Education (EMC): historical knowledge, geography, citizenship, and democratic values.

Assessments and Academic Validation at Collège

At Windfield International School, students in year 7 (6ème) and year 9 (4ème) sit national assessments set by the French Ministry of National Education (MENJ) each September.

These standardized tests evaluate core skills in French and Mathematics, providing a clear picture of each learner’s strengths and areas for progress.

Throughout the school year, we ensure continuous assessment through class observation, regular exercises, and projects.

All results are entered into Myscol and compiled into the student report card — a secure digital record, with detailed reports issued in December, April, and June

Windfield uses Myscol to manage academic tracking.

Myscol is a secure online platform where parents and students can view grades, timetables, attendance, teacher feedback, and official documents, ensuring transparent communication between school and families.

MyScol : Plateforme tout en un pour établissement scolaire

Collège students also take part in EPI exam – “Enseignements Pratiques Interdisciplinaires”.

An oral presentation where interdisciplinary projects connect multiple subjects around a common theme, encouraging teamwork, research, and real-world problem solving.

The middle school journey culminates in the Diplôme National du Brevet (DNB). This French national diploma combines 50 % continuous assessment (coursework and term results) with 50 % final examinations in French, Mathematics, History–Geography/EMC, and Science.

Windfield students sit the final DNB exams at the Lycée Français International de Bangkok (LFIB).

Travel and accommodation costs for these sessions are the responsibility of families, and exam dates – different from those in mainland France – are communicated to parents as soon as they are confirmed.

The Collège stage aims to:

  • Consolidate fundamental knowledge across disciplines.
  • Prepare students for orientation and subject choices in Lycée.
  • Develop autonomy, responsibility, and digital competencies.
  • Strengthen civic values and cultural openness.
  • Ensure readiness for the Lycée (upper secondary, ages 15–18).
