STEM at Windfield

Step into our STEM lab and you’ll find students coding, building robots, and turning ideas into real, working projects.

Everything we do is project-based: students design, test and problem-solve their way through hands-on challenges that bring together critical thinking, design, engineering, mathematics, science and technology, the skills that matter far beyond the classroom.

Chemistry

In Chemistry, students carry out real experiments to see for themselves how the world works, not just read about it. Every reaction becomes a chance to ask why, and to think about how that same idea shows up in everyday life, from the food we cook to the products we use at home.

Physics & Biology

Physics and Biology follow the same spirit: students observe, investigate, and draw their own conclusions, whether that’s exploring the forces that keep a bridge standing or examining living systems up close, building a genuine understanding they can carry with them well beyond their exams.

Robotics & ICT

Our Robotics and ICT lessons keep pace with where technology is heading. Students learn to code, build robots from scratch, and pick up new digital skills at every stage, moving from following instructions to designing their own solutions.

It’s a space where they learn to create with technology, not just use it, and where every mistake is simply part of getting to a better answer.

Looking outward

We’re connecting with the local vocational college to learn more about hydroponic systems, showing students how nature and technology can work together to solve real problems, from growing food more sustainably to thinking differently about resources.

We’re reaching out to the wider robotics community to give our students the chance to test their skills alongside others who share the same passion, and we’re planning to take part in STEM competitions outside school, testing their ideas against other schools.

groups-01

Safe, hands-on learning for every age

Across every year group, from our youngest learners to our A-Level students, lessons are hands-on and carefully structured, with safety and good practice built in from day one.

That means every child, whatever their age, feels confident exploring, asking questions, and learning through trial and error, in a lab that’s organised, well-equipped, and genuinely theirs to experiment in.

At its heart, STEM at Windfield is about curiosity. We want every student to leave the lab having asked a good question, tried something new, and taken away a little more confidence than they walked in with.
